Girl Skateboards partners with (Product) RED

One of my all time favorite skateboard companies just stepped up once again to be a role model in the skateboard industry. Girl Skateboards’ Eric Koston and Art Director/Artist Andy Jenkins got together to make a limited (RED) Edition deck.

The result is actually 2 decks formed from Andy’s artwork which come together to form one image - the Girl logo surrounded by the (RED) “embrace”. Not only does it look great and no doubt skate great, but a good whack of the profits go to support the global fight against AIDS.

(RED) was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund by teaming up with the world's most iconic brands to produce (PRODUCT)RED branded products. A percentage of each (PRODUCT)RED product sold is given to The Global Fund. The money helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.

What's the meaning of the parentheses or brackets? They call them "the embrace." Each company that becomes (RED) places its logo in this embrace and is then elevated to the power of red. Thus the name -- (PRODUCT)RED.

Check out the video below showing Koston riding, and Andy designing. Then perhaps go buy some (RED) product… Way to go Girl Skateboards!

Ryan Sheckler...

I shot these photos at a big skateboard event a couple weeks ago and never had a second to post any of them. The event was a success, the motorcross "Metal Mulisha" team was ridiculously crazy, Ryan Sheckler ripped like nobody's business and I had never seen so many girls at a skate demo.

Chuck Close...

In case you dont know who this is, He is an artist named Chuck Close and he's one of my all time favorite contemporary artist. Last year when I was visiting a friend in Brooklyn we were checking out some galleries in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) and Chuck Close was coming down the street right at us. He was really cool, and let us snap a photo with him. I just came across it again and wanted to share it. The piece below is out of his Fingerprint series, yeah, he did the whole thing stamping fingerprints on canvas, ands its a huge 102 x 84".
